And it's doozy, a heavy month chock full of audio-bliss - eight releases - it's our first music review column, so we are going big-time! We've got a great array of genres, we have Swedish stoner-metal, fuzzed-out psychedelia from the Northwest, old school rockabilly, soundtracks, and even some Italian heavy rockers and thrashers!

DOZER - REWIND TO RETURN: RARITIES, SINGLES AND B-SIDES (2025) CD

Label: Blues Funeral Recordings
Duration: 63 Minutes 31 Seconds

Swedish stoner-metallers Dozer have released a collection of b-sides and rarities, the 15-track 'Rewind to Return' album is a celebration of the bands 30th anniversary, an chockfull of singles, rare tracks and b-sides from across their proliferant history, all remastered by the band's former drummer Karl Daniel Lidén. I am only familiar with the band's 10" record 'Supersoul' hat was releases on Frank Kozik's Man's Ruin Records back in 2000, and listening to this slab was pretty dang sweet, riff-tastic heavy rock in the vein of Kyuss, Desert Sessions and Fu Manchu, tasty leads, memorable vocals by Fredrik Nordin that can be both gruff and grittily melodic. Mid-tempo dirges like "Tanglefoot", barn-burning rockers (Silverball"), and a healthy dose of heavy psychedelia ("Universe") and fuzzed-out classic rock influences ("Mammoth Mountain"). The songs span from 2000-2004, a selection of b-sides, splits, compilation and unreleased demos, including a pair of covers, The Misfits "She" gets a woozy intro'd re-do before it starts toc hug, while Sunride's "Vinegar Fly" gets an energetic workout that rocks and rolls for days. The polish on these recordings vary, but they all sound potent and rough-hewn in the best sort of way, I may not have be familiar with the vast majority of Dozer's output, but if these are the b-sides I certainly need to check out some albums proper! This single-disc CD arrives in a four-panel digipack with a clear plastic tray.

DAMNATION - SCREAM ALL MY HATE (2025) CD

Label: Punishment 18 Records
Duration: 42 Minutes

Following up their self-titled debut EP Italian thrasher Damnation carry on the late '80s and early '90s thrash metal sound with a mighty potent and well-produced full-length. Channelling the riffs worthy of prime-era Megadeth and Testament with the the screaming solos of Slayer this these throwback thrashers pummel from the first song to the last, tightly woven thrash tunes, excellent riffage, propelling rhymes and some tasty double-bass work, plus a singer that reminded me of Troy sanders of Mastodon channeling Nuclear Assault's John Connolly. If you're an old school thrasher or a new school thrasher there's plenty here to love, driving thrash with riffs that stick like glue, thunderous and non-stop. I threw this on yesterday on the drive into work, I was so pumped I forgot to stop and but my usual cup o' joe, I was thrash-amped already. The single-disc CD arrives in a clear jewel case with a 12-page booklet featuring images of the band and lyrics.

Label: Ripple Music
Duration: 40 Minutes 24 Seconds

Washington State's three-piece Borracho are back with their sixth full-length, the first for Ripple Music. This is my first time spinning the band, and the wonders of this album will certainly have e exploring their back catalog. Heavy rock with some nice fuzz to it, the groove's run deep and hard with a rhythm section that pummels, each song running five to seven minutes giving plenty of time for them to loop massive riffs back around, adding psychedelic interludes and dynamic soloing over driving rhythms. The vocals are gruff, with group choruses that are catchy. I definitely see this appealing to fans of stoner metal and southern-fried heavy rock, the instrumental "Veil of Tears" channels elements of classic Ozzy-era Sabbath, while "Machine is Master" is slathered with solos had me spacing out big-time, as did "Freakshow". This single disc CD arrives in a 4-panel digipak with a clear tray housingthe disc.

2. Succubus

ALLIGATOR - IMMORTAL ENTITY (1991) CD

Label: Punishment 18 Records
Duration: 47 Minutes

'90S era Italian thrashers Alligator formed in 1988, they blended Bay Area thrash speed with some serious technical skill. The album production is pretty rough by modern standards but has raw, thrash sound that brought to mind Demolition Hammer with a touch of Kreator. Apparently the band disbanded in '96 after a not well received third album, but this was a solid release, the heavy riffage and shouted choruses offer plenty of headbanging banging, and I like that they are not afraid to be slightly playful, like a song like "Samba Death"  , or slow things down for some intricate guitar work, or even reference the Halloween theme. The instrumental thrashy track "Bog of Horror" has some nice Metallica-ish fast-riffage guitar leads and soling that brought to mind Ride the Lightning era stuff, pretty tasty. The album has been re-issued by Punishment 18 Records and distributed stateside by MVD Entertainment, it arrives in a jewel case with an 8-page booklet with lyrics.

Track Listing:
1. Intro
2. Immortal Entity
3. Yesterday We Fell
4. Dimagra
5. S.O.Y.F.A.S.
6. And Then the Silence
7. Samba Death

ALLIGATOR - CEREBRAL IMPLOSION (1994) CD

Label: Punishment 18 Records
Duration: 48 Minutes

Alligator's second album Cerebral Implosion (1994) has also been reissued by Punishment 18 Records, boasting superior production, more aggressive songs, and a decidedly more Sepultura-ish sound falling somewhere between the Arise and Chaos A.D. era, especially the Cavalera-esque guttural vocals, and I am here for it. Terrific riffing, the songs are together and more textured with superior soling throughout, some devastating double-kick bass rhythms that were sure to have gotten the pit going big-time at the shows during songs like "Decimation and the pummeling "Tarantula" which has an Overkill-esque gallop to it that hit. Not everyone song is a banger, the cover of The Beatles "Help" feels like it should have been a b-side, and the funk-metal fusion of "Drinking Milk from My Knees" falls into similar territory. The album closer "Natural Victim" is one of my favorite tracks, a tempo-changing burner from start to finish, lots of interesting textures and tempo changes, and quite a high note to go out on. Overall,  a couple of missteps don't lessen the impact of this tasty thrash album that shows a lot of growth within the band, if you're looking for some under-the-radar thrash metal gems with more than a whiff of Sepultura influence I highly suggest giving this album a listen. The reissue is a single-disc release and arrives in a jewel case with a clear tray, and we get a 6-panel fold-out booklet with lyrics.

Track Listing
1. Cerebral Implosion
2. Beyond the Reach of Fate
3. The Cage
4. Decimation
5. Help (The Beatles cover)
6. Lullaby for the Unborn
7. Skeleton's Beach

WANDA JACKSON - THE CLASSICS ALBUM COLLECTION (1954-1965)
4-Disc CD Set

Label: Enlightenment
Duration: 274 mins

Oklahoman Wanda Jackson, was one of the first female rockabilly singers, achieving massive success in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a pioneering rock and roll artist, earning her the title of Queen (or First Lady) of Rockabilly. This 4-CD set fro m Enlighten spans Wanda Jackson's most popular recordings made between 1954 and 1965, her Golden Years, spanning the five full albums that were recorded for the Capitol label in the 1960s, as well 3-discs of non-LP singles and B-sides. I am more of a fan of her earlier rockabilly stuff like "Fujiyama Mama" and "Hot Dog!That Made Him Mad", less so of the later country-pop stuff, but even then there are a few charmers, plenty of covers of hank Williams Sr ("I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", "Cold Cold Heart"),  Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller classics "Yakkity Yak" and "Searchin'", Little Richard's "Rip It Up". and plenty of other country standards given the Wanda Jackson treatment. For my money Wanda's 'Rockin; with Wanda' rockabilly album from 1960 is worth the price of admission alone, the rest is just the country gravy on top, especially the 3-discs worth a A-sides and B-sides singles collection. This 4-disc set is only $15 on Amazon right now, making this the best value in this month's Crypt-Kickers column, if you have even an inkling of idea in exploring the music career of Wanda Jackson - this is the place to start.

SUPER NAUGHTY - APOCALYPSO (2025) CD

Label: Ripple Music
Duration: 36:13 mins

This Italian four-piece Super Naught peddle in heavy, fuzzed-out and riffy stoner-metal rock n' roll, opening with the one-two punch of "Poseidon" and "Black Witch Mountain", having a galloping charge and chug to them that recalled The Sword and Kyuss at various times, making a pretty memorable first impression on me, being heavy with a undeniable groove, and terrific vocals from singer Angelo Fagni that have grit but also are able to soar, and have a resonant quality, with "King Again" having a William DuVall (Alice in Chains) quality to i. I was impressed by the wallop of the rhythm section as well. The single-disc CD arrives in a 4-panel digipak with a clear CD tray,  and I love the Solomacello artwork on the cover, and the bold lettering on the spine, it's real eye-catcher!
