CLAUDIO SIMONETTI'S GOBLIN - PROFONDO ROSSO (DEEP RED) (1970) 50th Anniversary Deluxe Digipack CD
Label: Rustblade Records
Duration: 94 Minutes
Goblin's soundtrack for Dario Argento's seminal giall0 Deep Red / Profondo Rossso gets a fantastic 2-disc 50th Anniversary Edition from Rustblade Records, a surreal and atmospheric synth drenched accompaniments that starts of with the cascading terror of "Profundo Rosa", one of Argento's most familiar themes. Goblin's signature prog-rock and sinister synths alchemy drives the film, and the tunes stand on their own, so intrinsically tied to the visual/ audio experience that I could see the film unfold in my mind's eye whole taking these in. Listening to "Wild Session" on it;s own which starts off with a plaintive piano and operatic female accompaniment before diverging into a funky synch synth freakout with a tasty saxaphone solo. In my mind Goblin where the Emerson, Lake and Palmer of the Italian soundtrack world, especially on something like the jazzy assault of "Deep Shadows", the bass and drum are just locked into a groove. Back in '75 Morante, Pignatelli and Martino really blew onto the soundtrack scene sounding like some sort of half-remembered prog-rock fever-dream, and went onto create some of my favorite horror/thriller soundtracks of all-time, The second disc includes live versions from Japan, and 1991 versions of the songs by Simonettis Horror Project, including a "rap version" of the Profondo Rosso theme, and live versions from Claudio Simonetti's later project Daemonia. The soundtrack gets the Limited Deluxe gatefold Double CD (500 Copies) that arrives in a glossy six-panel digipak that includes a bonus CD with alternative and live versions

SEA HAGS - DEAD AND GONE (1986) CD
Label: Liberation Hall
Duration: 41 Minutes
San Francisco rockers the Sea Hags - Dead And Gone CD from Liberation Hall offers ten track that were previously unreleased, a live performance that captures the hard-edged sleazy rock recorded love at CD Studios in San Francisco in September 1986. I clearly remember seeing the Sea Hags music video for "Half the Wat Valley" on MTV in '89, and being intrigued by them, buying their debut (and only album till now). They were lumped into hair metal but had more of a rootsy Bang Tango or Faster Pussycat by way of The Replacement vibes that appealed to me, they were less Poison and more Hanoi Rocks. The released one album on major Chrysalis in 1989 , having already established a rep opining for band like Dead Kennedys, Social Distortion, Circle Jerks, X, the Flaming Lips, Redd Kross, Suicidal Tendencies, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden, Primus and Motörhead, and having released a 6 track demo that was produced by Kirk Hammett and the Metallica, but 10 months after their debut after the label's insistence that the lineup change the band fell apart and imploded. This raw sounding live documents is a testament to their sneering, trashy rock n' roll sound. The live set spans 10 songs, only two of which appear on their lone studio album, so it scratches an itch for more Sea Hags tunes for sure. The single-disc CD arrives in a standard jewel case with a booklet with writing on the band from music journalist Bill Kopp.

GHOSTWOMAN - WELCOME TO THE CIVILIZED WORLD (2025) CD
Label: Full Time Hobby
Duration: 38 Minutes
The fourth album from Belgian-Canadian duo Ghostwoman, comprised of guitarist/vocalist Evan Uschenko's and drums by van Dessel, offers an intoxicating blend of hypnotic, psych-grunge and frayed garage rock, eleven tracks with the effortlessly cool swagger of Link Wray and the shimmering, snarling guitar jangle of The Jesus and Mary Chain, eleven tracks of raw-sounding textured guitar drone, I had this on repeat in my car CD player for a week and never grew tired of it, I just vibed off it's glorious rock n' roll sound. If you're a fan of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or The Raveonettes you should check out this album, now available via The Full Time Hobby Records on CD and vinyl.
